If doors are left unchecked or have been inadequately installed, not only are they ineffective but can endanger lives in the event of a fire.
The Fire Safety Order places the emphasis on risk reduction and fire prevention. Under the Order, people responsible for commercial buildings i.e. the employer, owner, or any other person who has control of any part of the premises, are required to ensure that fire doors are correctly installed and will stop the spread of a fire for the appropriate duration.
As such fire doors should to be treated the same way as other fire safety measures such as fire alarms, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting.
Fire door surveys aim to ensure that the doors function correctly and are adhering to the manufacturer’s specifications and are compliant with current Building Regulation standards and the Fire Safety Order.
